Hey again! MarketSquare just moved into Open Beta, meaning you can now sign up, create a profile, and enjoy the full splendor of the New Homepage for the Decentralized Web! From Monday to Friday we bring you our Discovery of the Day, a series of special articles featuring some of our top picks from across the cryptosphere. Be it DeFi, NFTs, Blockchain games or otherwise, we cover all the important stuff you need to know! It’s always good when projects acknowledge the contributions of previously disenfranchised members of our society. With this in mind, we are proud to bring you…Women and Weapons!
Standing United Against Oppression
By the early 1900s, women had become frustrated with the lack of progress on altering legislation to grant them the right to vote and participate in important political decisions. As a direct consequence, the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU), also knows as The Suffragettes, was formed by Emily Pankhurst under the mantra of ‘Deeds, not words.’
The Suffragettes were tired of being treated unfairly, so they decided to take matters into their own hands. The Suffragettes used violent tactics and even acts of subterfuge to claim what they deemed to be rightfully theirs: the right to vote in general elections. The tactics employed by Suffragists ranged from pouring acid on golf courses all the way to arson and bombings.
Needless to say, after much struggle, ridicule and effort, the WSPU emerged victorious and gained the right to vote under the Representation of the People Act 1918!

While classic conventions of femininity tend to enshrine submissiveness, composure and sensitivity, the Suffragettes proved that women can also be strong, aggressive and bold. In many respects, women are the backbone of our society: they are mothers, wives, daughters, carers, fighters, thinkers, inventors…in fact, women are so many things and are vital in keeping the world a thriving, vibrant place.
Ladylike and Lethal
Women and Weapons is a collection of 10,000 diverse and delightfully deadly female NFTs living in the domiciles of the Ethereum Blockchain. Designed from over 200 different hand-drawn traits, each woman is entirely unique.
One of the primary goals of Women and Weapons is to raise money for various charities and take advantage of the large platform they are building to make the world a better place. As it so happens, Women and Weapons is donating 5% of their profits to the Malala Fund, an organization that advocates and helps to improve the state of secondary education for girls on a global scale. At time of writing, the total amount donated by Women and Weapons stands at $100,000! Now that’s really something!

However, in addition to creating a distinct and powerful collection, Sara has also been releasing special art pieces as part of her personal 1/1 Genesis Collection—check out this one Sara made for the legendary GaryVee !
